Get a More Youthful Appearance with Facetite

It used to be that the most effective way to restore a more youthful appearance to your face was through a face-lift. Although this procedure is still effective, it comes at a cost in terms of downtime and discomfort. Thanks to modern technology, namely radiofrequency (RF) energy, we can garner almost the same results without causing collateral tissue damage or incurring significant healing time.

At our Jefferson Valley, New York, practice, plastic surgeon Dr. Mrudangi S. Thakur is no stranger to the myriad ways to fight back against aging. As the technology is refined, Dr. Thakur and our team take full advantage of the new products that take a more innovative, and less invasive, approach to aging skin. One procedure we’re particularly pleased to offer is our FaceTite system, which is helping our patients dial back the years.

Here’s a look at how this exciting technology works to give you a more youthful appearance.

The problem with aging skin

In order to better understand how the FaceTite technology works, it’s helpful to have a clear picture of what’s happening inside your tissue that’s causing your skin to wrinkle and sag.

First, the many years of exposure, especially to the sun’s harmful ultraviolet rays, lead to photoaging, which is the premature breakdown of your skin cells. When you were younger, your skin cells renew themselves regularly (in fact, you essentially had new skin every month or so). As you age and your skin succumbs to external forces, your cells don’t change over as frequently, which leads to poorer skin quality.

On top of this, your tissue naturally loses its support network as time goes by‚ namely the structural proteins collagen and elastin. On the heels of this decline, your skin begins to droop and sag.

Fighting back with FaceTite

FaceTite is a unique system in which we use radiofrequency-assisted liposuction to remodel your tissue. To do this, we insert a cannula (or small tube) into your tissue to deliver energy that coagulates your fat. At the same time that the cannula is coagulating the fat below the surface, there’s an electrode that runs across the surface of your skin that receives the energy, creating collagen contraction.

As the two components work in tandem, aided by temperature controls and computer guidance, your results are uniform across the surface of your skin, giving you a smoother tone.

This combination approach to aging skin, which addresses the tissue from inside and out, provides you with both immediate and gradual results. The initial contraction of your collagen tightens your skin, but your tissue continues to remodel itself from below over the next 6-12 months, essentially turning back the clock on aging skin.

Less recovery and downtime

Outside of the great results with FaceTite, there are other advantages to this minimally invasive procedure. For starters, the RF energy coagulates your blood vessels so there’s less bruising and pain after the procedure. And because we’re only inserting a cannula that measures just 1.3 millimeters, you don’t have a prolonged recovery period as you would with the larger incisions needed for a face-lift.
