Fat Transfers and Microneedling for Hands

Your hands are one of the first parts of your body where common signs of aging begin to emerge. Even if you’re meticulous about taking care of your skin and protecting it from the sun, chances are the skin on your hands still winds up getting a little more exposure than the rest of your body.

This means the skin on the back of your hands tends to age more quickly, losing elasticity and developing age spots and wrinkles much sooner than skin in other areas. Your hands are also prone to soft tissue volume loss, a natural age-driven process that can thin them out and leave you with prominent veins.

While there are a variety of effective treatments designed to rejuvenate your hands, including dermal fillers and chemical peels, nothing decreases prominent veins, reduces the appearance of wrinkles, and improves the quality and texture of your skin like a targeted fat transfer combined with microneedling.

Restore volume with a fat transfer

A fat transfer, also known as microlipoinjection or autologous fat transplantation, is an ingenious way to restore lost volume to your hands while simultaneously smoothing and reshaping them.

To perform a fat transfer, we use liposuction to retrieve a small amount of fat from your abdomen, thighs, buttocks, or another donor area. After we process the cells to ensure they’re clean and ready for re-transfer, we re-inject them into your hands at precise points and in multiple layers to give you a smooth, linear deposit of fatty tissue.

Because your body will quickly reabsorb a significant number of these fat cells, we typically overfill the treatment area to ensure you’ll have enough remaining fat to smooth and contour your hands.

Hand rejuvenation fat transfers are known for providing soft, natural-looking results that can last for several years. Plus, because the filler that’s used to restore lost volume comes from your own body, there’s no chance your immune system will reject it and cause an allergic reaction (as can sometimes happen with dermal fillers).

Revitalize tired skin with microneedling

Microneedling, or collagen induction therapy, is a revolutionary treatment that uses ultra-thin needles to gently create hundreds of invisible microchannels across the surface of your skin. These microscopic “injuries” stimulate your body’s natural wound healing mechanisms, effectively kicking the production of fresh collagen and elastin into overdrive.

Taken all together, these changes lead to stronger, tighter skin structures that begin in your deepest dermal layer and extend all the way to the surface of your skin. You’ll experience noticeably smoother skin with fewer wrinkles and age spots on the backs of your hands.

Even better, the surface channels created in the microneedling process provide an ideal way to deliver customized skincare serums directly into the deepest layers for optimal benefits and results.

Individualized treatments to meet your needs

Depending on your skin needs and treatment goals, your customized microneedling serum may include hyaluronic acid, an all-natural substance that helps plump your skin; retinol, a powerful antioxidant that offsets the effects of sun damage; or vitamin C, an essential water-soluble nutrient that promotes dermal tissue hydration and enhances collagen production.

The microneedling procedure itself is simple: After we prepare your personalized skin serum and cleanse the backs of your hands, we gently press the device against your skin spot-by-spot, systematically covering every inch.

Microneedling isn’t painful or even uncomfortable, as the thin needles only go deep enough to create microchannels in your uppermost layer of skin — not deep enough to draw blood.
